History of the Bagel

The circular shape of the Bagel signifies the cycle of life and good luck. According to some historians the first mention of the word bagel occurred in the community of Cracovia in 1610. Bagels were presented as gift to women who had just given birth to a child.
Others, give credit to a Viennese baker, who apparently made it to commemorate the victory of King Jan 111 Sobieski against Turkey in 1683. The bagel form is similar to the one of ¨buegel¨ (stirrup); the released Austrians clung to the stirrups of the King when he passed by on his horse.

Bagelmen´s Bagels

Bagelmens Bagels are the real thing! They are original New York style water bagels. Unlike other bagel restaurants that steam their bagels, Bagelmen´s kettle boils their fresh dough before baking them.

Our bagels have no preservatives, added colors or added oils. We use the highest quality, purest ingredients. Our bagels are made fresh daily, we never carry them over for use on another day.

Bagelmens Bagels come in a variety of different flavors-
Plain, Poppy seed, Sesame, Cinnamon raisin, Pumpernickel, Garlic, Onion, with everything, Jalapeno and Whole Wheat.

Hints on Handling your Bagelmen´s Bagels
  • If you are not going to consume your bagels on the same day they were purchased, it is recommended that you freeze them. Just leave them in the brown Bagelmen´s bag, and place them in a plastic bag.
  • You might want to slice your bagels before freezing them. When you want to consume them you can simply pop them straight into the toaster.
  • Do not place your onion, everything and garlic bagels with the milder bagels, they will all taste like onion and garlic.
